    PROPAGANDA POSTERS and LORD OF THE FLIES

    UNDERSTANDINGS

    8.29     Identify and analyze patterns of imagery or symbolism.

    8.30     Identify and interpret themes and give supporting evidence from a text.

    10.5     Compare and contrast the presentation of a theme or topic across genres
    to explain how the selection of genre shapes the message.

    11.5 Apply knowledge of the concept that the theme or meaning of a selection
    represents a view or comment on life, and provide support from the text


    ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS:

    Who are your leaders? What objects or signs let you know who your leaders are?

    What are your leaders’ responsibilities? Who can you name, real or fictional, who is a good leader? What qualities make him or her good?

    Who can you name who is bad leader? What are the outward sings of good or bad leadership?

    How can the characteristics of single object be used to communicate a complex set of ideas?

    KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

    Students will understand the techniques of propaganda by examining the ways artists use a small number of objects or images to create a powerful message.

    Students will analyze the images used to communicate powerful messages in WWII Propaganda
